In order to obtain competitive quotes, cost your shipping accurately and obtain a timely response, it's important to submit as much information as possible to your service provider/s.
1. Many freight forwarders calculate the origin and destination haulage by postal code and their tariffs are set up for this. If you do not provide the code, then they will have to take the time to locate the postal code for your location and a delay in getting back to you will occur. In Europe and North America, there are towns and cities that have the same name, e.g. Toronto CA, which is not Toronto Canada but Toronto, California, USA. We've provided postal code lookups for your convenience on our business tools page.
2. When stating no. of pieces, ensure that if you have 500 pcs in small cartons and that you are going to load them on skids, the piece count, weight and volume of your shipment is reported on the gross of the skid specifics. This will help eliminate the risk of a discrepancies between your estimate and the actual amount billed.
3. If the commodity is hazardous, the UN no, page no, Class etc., will have to be given as this can definately change the basis of the quote for all modes of transport, but especially for airfreight. Freight forwarders' quotations normally re-state the commodity , and identify it as non-hazardous.
